Tom Westervelt was born on July 7, 1947, at St. John's hospital in Oxnard, California to James and Berenice Westervelt. He died on January 29, 2020.

Tom attended Santa Clara Elementary school, the Santa Clara High School. He spent the summer between his junior and senior years in Brazil as a foreign exchange student with AFS. This was an incredible life-changing experience for him. Tom graduated from Santa Clara with the class of 1965.

After two years at Ventura Juniors College and a year at UCSB, he received his bachelor of science degree from the University of the Americas in Mexico City in 1970.

Subsequent to college, Tom served in the Military (Army) for a period of 2 years.

After his military duty was fulfilled, Tom spent his subsequent few years employed at a wide spectrum of business, from DonlonFarms to The Hungry Walrus to Travelers Insurance. It wasn't until he sought employment in the medical industry upon the advice of a good friend that he found his niche. Tom was employed with two medical equipment companies before he established his own business, which he presided over a span of 36 years and which is still providing medical equipment and furnishings to his loyal customers in the medical field.

When his son Darren stared playing little League baseball, Tom became an umpire in Ojai, where he called many games. An avid golfer and fisherman, Tom was a member of the Ojai Valley Inn & Golf Club for many years, and of the Ventura County Sports Fishing Club.

Tom is survived by his wife, Yvonne, his son Darren Westervelt, daughter and son in law Amy Westervelt Girvan and Matt Girvan, grandsons Archie and Roscoe Girvan, and his brother Robert Westervelt.

There will be a memorial honoring Tom at a later date. Please consider making a donation in Toms honor to: Paralyzed Veterans of America, 801 Eighteenth Street, NW Washington, D.C. 20006-3517, or, The Painted Turtle Camp, 1300 4th Street, Suite 300, Santa Monica, CA. 90401
