With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Theresa Secor, beloved mom, sister, friend, and grandma or "Nani" as her grandchildren called her. Theresa passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on January 29, 2025 after a 5-year battle with dementia. She was 94.
Born July 3, 1930 in San Dimas to Alberto and Victoria Montano, Theresa was a pillar of strength and compassion, touching countless lives through her dedicated work in special education for over 30 years. Theresa's career would see her advocate for countless children with varying abilities. She always understood their unique needs and celebrated their accomplishments, no matter how small.
Beyond the classroom, Theresa loved to garden. Theresa nurtured a beautiful array of plants with a particular pride for her magnificent avocado tree. If Theresa was not home, everyone knew she could be found at Green Thumb Nursery.
Theresa was always in good company, as she loved people, dogs and cats. Along with her family, her cat Oliver was by her side up until her last breath.
Theresa is survived by her son Robert (spouse Nancy); daughter Leslie (spouse Ron); sisters: Caroline and Dolores; brothers: Charlie and Dusty; grandchildren: Melissa (spouse Victor), Michael, Vikki, and Ashleigh; great grandchildren: Cassandra (spouse Walter), Sienna, Ryan, Kylee, Cristiano, and Charlotte. She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother Geronima; husband Robert; sister Gloria; brothers: Philip, Jesus, Marcelo, Jose (Bobby), and Eddie; nephew Michael; and grandson Ben.
Theresa was even fortunate enough to have a great, great granddaughter- Nathalie.
A visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 11 at Reardon Funeral Home, 511 North A Street, Oxnard. Service will begin at 10:00 a.m. and interment will follow at Santa Clara Cemetery, Oxnard.
In lieu of flowers, please plant a rose or camellia in Theresa's honor or make a donation to your local animal shelter in Oliver's name.
