Theodore "Bear" Patrick Perez

Theodore Patrick "Bear" Perez, of Oxnard, passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2023, following a lengthy illness. Theodore was 54 years old. 

Ted was born on October 6, 1969, in San Luis Obispo, CA  but was a life long resident of Ventura County. He worked as a Mental Health Associate for Ventura County Behavioral Health for 15 years until his retirement in 2020.

Growing up, Ted was involved in the Boy Scouts and Santa Clara Church's youth ministry. He played football while at Oxnard High School. He was involved in woodworking, car mechanics, car racing and building muscle cars. 

He started learning to play the Ukulele and collecting them along with Tikis, Hawaiian shirts and Hawaiian fishing hooks.

He found his passion with helping others from the disabled, mentally ill and homeless. He volunteered with the homeless shelters, winter warming shelter, and the Ventura County Disaster response team.

Ted was very involved with the SEIU 721 as a steward, member of the Executive  Board, contract negotiation team member, national organizing committee member, regional council member, member for the labor management team for Ventura County Behavioral Health. 

All of Ted's bulldogs (Ivan, Manu and Koa) were adopted from the Southern California Bulldog Rescue. Donations to SCBR would be greatly appreciated. 

Ted is survived by his loving wife of 11 years, Diane (Arevalo) Perez. He is also survived by his mother Margaret Lord, Lake Elsinore, CA; Brother Timothy Perez (Salley), Lake Elsinore, CA and their children: Santiago, Tobias and Calliope; In Laws, Manuel and Terry Arevalo, Oxnard, CA, Manuel Arevalo Jr., Roxanne Federis (James) and their children: Matthew, Justin and Kaelyn.

He is preceded in death by his father, Trinidad R. Perez Jr.
