Ruben Lizarraga Palazuelos

On Saturday July 5, 2025 at my father’s side Ruben Lizarraga Palazuelos passed away peacefully at Cedars Senai Hospital, Los Angeles. He was born to Adolfo and Maria Palazuelos on August 12, 1951 in Oxnard, attended Driffill Elementary School, Haydock Middle School, and graduated from Oxnard High School.

He was a lifelong Ventura County resident, living in Oxnard and Ventura throughout his lifetime. He worked many years for the grocery industry and Price Club in Oxnard and retired from Costco in Goleta. At a very young age his musical path began at the Boys Club on 7th Street in Oxnard. He was self-taught and played by ear. Later in years he joined bands leading him to be a leader of his own band that he was famous for, Nuestro.  For many years Nuestro performed throughout southern California including the first ever Salsa Festival in Oxnard.

He is survived by his brother Victor Palazuelos; numerous cousins; nephews and nieces; and myself, his son Ruben Arturo Palazuelos.  He is preceded in death by his sister Maria Dolores Navarro. 

He will be missed by many of his family, friends and fans.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 801 South A Street, Oxnard.
