Ruben Carranco passed away Saturday, January 20, 2024.
Dean Martin and The Platters were still bustling the radio waves and jukeboxes. And the city of Oxnard was growing into an agriculture and multicultural center piece. Where schools and businesses, farms and parks were taking shape. This is where he called called home. Where he became a big brother. A star athlete. Where he first fell in love. And where he became a father.
Even when he was young, Ruben was always active. So much so, with help from his mother, they helped open the first Boy Scout Chapter in the city of Oxnard, all so he could join. While attending Hueneme High School, we was an amazing athlete in both football and baseball, much to the delight of his proud father, even passing on his baseball knowledge to his little brother. Later in life, he enjoyed biking down Channel Islands and took the time to appreciate the beauty the city could offer.
Ruben was also an extremely hard worker, devoting over 30 years to 3M and nearly 10 years with Foothills High School but he knew when to party and have fun too. He wore the Raider Black and bled Dodger Blue. His music choice was second to none as new and timeless classics rang from his playlist even to the very end but the only thing that dwarfed his love for sports and music was family.
From camping trips and softball games to hosting a fight night or during holidays, family was most important. That’s what he was taught, how he was raised and what he helped instill to all of us. He was wise, funny and provided for his family, all while giving us a life full of memories and values. Because of this, he was never alone.
Ruben is survived by his children Christina and Eric; grandchild Petra; fiancé Cathy; mother Stella; brother Rene; sister Alice, loving nieces and nephews; the cousins he grew up with; tíos and tías; and all his friends.
