It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Devericks on April 9, 2025. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who left us surrounded by love and cherished memories. Born on May 23, 1940 in Ventura to Margaret Rees and Robert Devericks, he was an only child whose boundless warmth and generosity touched the lives of many.
A graduate of Ventura High School class of 1958, he then attended Ventura College where he met his beloved wife Ellen in Spanish class. Together they went to Fresno State where Richard earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and left with a passion for real estate that led him to achieve an MBA in Urban Land Economics at UCLA. His passion and drive for real estate development defined his professional life, leaving behind a legacy of enduring projects and contributions to his community.
Beyond his work Richard held an appreciation for his many hobbies. Whether soaring through the skies as a licensed pilot, mentoring boys as a devoted Boy Scout leader at troop 103 in Ventura, traveling the world with Ellen on a cruise or a fishing trip with his sons, working on his many projects in Catalina, the Crowley Cabin, or the hangar, or tending to his vegetable garden and his fruit and avocado trees, he poured his heart into everything he did.
Most importantly, he was a loving husband and father dedicated to his children and grandchildren, who will forever carry forward his values, wisdom, and humor. He lived with purpose and integrity, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, sharp mind, and unyielding dedication to his wife, children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Ellen of 62 years; children Michael (Alicia), Robert (Annie), Kristen (Michael) Fowler, Steven (Lesley), and Patrick; and 16 grandchildren, who each blessed him with great joy.
Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. and Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22 at Sacred Heart Church, 10800 Henderson Road, Ventura. Interment will follow at Santa Clara Cemetery, Oxnard. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Richard's name to your favorite local charity.
