Rebecca “Becky” Hernandez, a lifelong resident of Ventura, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous five-year battle with colorectal cancer. Her strength, resilience, and unwavering faith were a true testament to her character and continue to inspire all who knew her.
Born on February 9, 1964, Becky lived a life defined by love, creativity, and faith. She was a devoted daughter, mother, and “Granny” who cherished every moment with her children and grandchildren. Whether it was sharing ice cream, collecting driftwood at the beach, painting, crafting, playing Uno, or making Jell-O, Becky ensured her grandchildren’s memories with her were filled with joy, laughter, and love. To her, her children and grandchildren were her greatest masterpieces.
Becky worked as a bookkeeper for Shea Designs, where she left her mark in a special way naming beautiful patio furniture pieces after her first grandchildren, Brooke and Sophia. A talented artist, Becky found joy in painting the sun, roses, parrots, lions, elephants, Native American chiefs, and more. Her creativity and generous spirit touched the hearts of everyone she encountered.
Her strong will to live, grounded in her deep faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, carried her through her journey. Becky taught us that every breath is worth fighting for and that no matter how many times life knocks us down, we rise, fight, and remain resilient.
Becky is survived by her beloved children: daughter Darling Hernandez (Fiancé Jesus Torres) and grandchildren Brooke, Sophia, Annmarie, Jonah, Jesse, Elijah, and Little Darling; son, Joseph Salazar (Wife Flavia Salazar) and grandchildren Nathaniel, Jocelyn, Bethany, Mariah, Josiah, Johan, and Jimena; son, Antonio Joaquin Puga II (Fiancé Ivette Perez) and grandchildren Antonio J. Puga III, Aria, Nalany, Mario, Damian, and Donovan; adored stepchildren, David Puga and Belinda Garcia; and countless family members and friends whose lives she touched. She was preceded in death by her parents, Guadalupe Diaz Hernandez and Rosemary Lopez Hernandez, and by her husband, Antonio Joaquin Puga Sr.
The Hernandez family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Sheryl Dickstine with AFMC, Dr. Isabelle Chen, and the team at the Hematology Oncology Center for their compassionate care over the years.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 27 at Reardon Funeral Home, 511 North A Street, Oxnard. A reception will follow at a location to be announced at the conclusion of the service.
