Raymond Edward Hoelle, lovingly known as Papa Ray, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on December 11, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, Ray built a life rooted in quiet strength, dedication, and deep love for his family.
In 1976, Ray made the cross-country drive from Chicago to Camarillo, California — a journey that marked the beginning of a new chapter. It was at Falcon Plastics in 1977 where he met the love of his life, Frances. From that moment on, they were partners in every sense — in life, in love, and in countless adventures. Ray was always ready to travel wherever Frances planned, especially their many cruise trips together, which became treasured memories filled with laughter, discovery, and togetherness.
A proud Army veteran, Ray went on to work at several places throughout his life, including Jafra, Home Federal Bank, Falcon Plastics, and eventually Meggitt, where he worked until retiring due to Parkinson’s disease. He also worked as a master locksmith, a skill that reflected his patience, precision, and problem-solving nature. No matter where he worked, Ray was known for his quiet dependability, strong work ethic, and humble spirit.
Ray was a skilled handyman, a loyal friend, and a man of few words — but when he spoke, his dry sense of humor always hit the mark. He stayed close with his childhood friends in Chicago and was the kind of person who showed up, without hesitation, when someone needed a hand.
Above all else, Ray treasured his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Frances; children Velda Garcia (Ben), Erin Hoelle, and Raymond Ryan Hoelle (Carrie); cherished grandchildren Reiley, Karlie, Andrea, Vance, Caleb, Ryan, and Penny; and beloved great-granddaughter, Ramona. His legacy lives on in the love he gave, the memories he created, and the moments he captured behind the lens of his ever-present camera.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to a Parkinson’s foundation, or that you honor Ray’s memory by spending time with those you love — maybe even planning a trip, just like Frances would.
