Ray Sargent Obituary

Ray was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas in 1931, to Henry and Ada Sargent. He passed away at the age of 93 on April 12, 2025, the morning after laying to rest his beloved wife of 69 years, Mary Kathleen, who passed away on April 1, 2025.

After the death of his father, he and his mother traveled by bus to California, to be near his brother who was serving in the military. They would ultimately settle in Oxnard. Ray eventually entered the military himself, serving as Sergeant Sargent in Korea from 1952 - 1954.

When he met Mary Kathleen "Ginty" Muldoon, he had found, as he would later say, "the sweetest girl there ever was." They married in 1955 and raised their six children in El Rio.

Ray was a quiet, hardworking man. He loved hunting, fishing, cars, music, wood working and his curiosity about how things worked enabled him to fix just about anything. In fact, through the years when something broke, his kids could be heard saying “Give it to Dad, he can fix anything!” In his later years, that curiosity grew to include technology; figuring out how to use computers and cell phones and how Google could put him in touch with the world around him. He loved gadgets!

Ray worked at the now historic landmark, Oxnard Sugar Beet Factory until it closed, and then worked for Peoples’ Lumber Company, later Louisiana Pacific, in Camarillo, until his retirement. In addition to fixing anything, he could eyeball a measurement, but always measured again with the tape line, because you always “measure twice, cut once,” he was great with numbers, and knew how to craft a piece of wood into something beautiful!

Ray is survived by five of his children: Karen, Denis, Kathleen, Koleen and Brian; adored grandchildren: Andrew, Taylor, Gabriel, Caitlin, Abbie and Kacie; and great granddaughter Zoey. His beloved wife Ginty; son Chuck; and brothers Bob and Wiley preceded him in passing.

Ray left this world proud of the family he had been blessed with and who love him so very much. God speed lovebirds!

Interment will be announced here at a later date.
