Peter Lopez Obituary

Peter R. Lopez entered into his eternal rest on Sunday, May 21, 2023, at the age of 92 after a lengthy illness. He was born on August 1, 1930 in Saticoy, California. He was a native of
California and a long-time resident of Oxnard. Peter attended local schools in Oxnard and thereafter enlisted in the U.S. Army. He worked for the Federal Civil Service at the U.S. Naval Pt. Mugu Base. He married Connie Hernandez, the love of his life, and they spent 45 wonderful years together. He was a very devoted husband to Connie during their life together.
Peter was a devout Catholic and attended mass at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. He loved to sing and was a member of the church choir for several years. In his older years, you could find
Peter singing in his backyard while relaxed in his recliner listening to his favorite songs. Not only could Peter sing, he was also a musician. Peter grew up in a talented family. His father and
siblings had beautiful voices and could play various instruments. Peter taught himself to play piano and guitar at an early age. Many evenings they had impromptu singing and jam sessions!
He loved playing the piano so much that if there was a piano in your home, Peter would begin playing a personal concert for you...what a gift!
Peter had a smile that brought so much pleasure. He was everybody’s friend. He would greet you with his famous line of “How Ya’ll Doin,” which would instantly bring a smile to your face,
whether you were a new friend, old friend or family member. He was also the absolute best story and joke teller...no one could do better! He had funny and entertaining ways of telling stories that kept you hanging on his every word which made him the life of the party! When Peter was around, you were guaranteed to be laughing just because he was being himself.
Peter loved being outdoors. He enjoyed camping trips with his family in the summer months. He also was an avid gardener. He liked nothing more than getting his hands dirty working in his
yard on a warm sunny day. He continued to garden until his late years. Peter was a big fan of the LA Dodgers and watched all their games. He enjoyed having company over to cheer the team on...Go Dodgers! Peter also watched the news channels and read the newspaper daily to keep up on world current events and what was happening in his community. He could easily engage in any conversation with you.
Most importantly, Peter had a heart that cared completely. He was wonderful to his family and friends, and would be there without hesitation if asked. He gave his time and love unconditionally. What he would do for his family, he would also do for his friends. Once you were Peter’s friend, you were his friend for life. He was a blessing to anyone who knew him and we were all lucky to have him in our lives. He was a gift to our world and will be sorely missed.
Peter was preceded in his death by his parents, Eulalio and Francisca Lopez; brothers, Joe Lopez and Valentine Lopez; sisters, Tillie Nunez and Eva Castorena; and sons, Peter Lopez, Ernie Lopez and Benny Lopez. Peter is survived by his wife, Connie Hernandez; sisters, Connie Contreras and Francis (Kika) Garcia; sons, Steve Lopez, Salvador Lopez and Alex Lopez, and
numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
