Peter Duenez

Peter Gregory Duenez passed away peacefully in his Oxnard home Sunday, March 27, 2022, at the age of 82. Peter was born to Gregory and Rose Duenez in Santa Barbara, California on March 28, 1939, he was the eldest of 3 children. Peter graduated from Santa Barbara High School in 1958. At a young age, he was introduced to the piano and developed a long-lasting love for music in many different genres. After high school, his passion for music led him on many adventures touring the countryside with “Bilko and the Sergeants” & “Chico Sosa” to name a few.  Peter eloped with his long-time love Blanche Andreu of Oxnard in 1961. As his family was growing, he relocated to Oxnard & began working alongside his dad and uncles as a longshoreman in Port Hueneme and was registered into the ILWU in 1966 where Pete adopted the nickname Hum short for Hummingbird.  Peter worked in San Pedro & Long Beach ports for a few years and then returned to Port Hueneme, working alongside his sons, grandchildren, cousins and friends.

Peter enjoyed his work and loved to entertain on the piano, never hesitating to play for family and friends throughout his life. He loved his family and always valued and enjoyed his time spent with them at home or on trips to Lake Tahoe, Hawaii or Las Vegas some of his favorite destinations.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many. Peter was kind, generous and honest with a great sense of humor still making us smile and laugh days before he passed. He is forever in our hearts and will be missed.

Peter is preceded in death by his wife Blanche, his father Greg and his mother Rose. Peter is survived by his 5 children, Eddie (Michelle), Paul (Carmen), Kristine, Stephanie, and Greg as well as his sisters Marylou & Rose (George), 10 grandchildren Anthony, Alec, Nick, Jake, Taylor (Brandon), Hannah, Brandon, Brianna, Justin, Tyler, great-grandchildren Natalie, Naomi and Wyatt on the way.

Services will be held on Thursday April 21, 2022 at 10:00 am at Santa Clara Church, 323 South E St. in Oxnard. An 8:00 am rosary will be recited at Reardon Funeral Home, 511 North A St., Oxnard. Immediately following Mass at Santa Clara, he will be laid to rest at Santa Clara Cemetery, 2370 North H St., Oxnard. A reception will follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 632 South D St in Oxnard at 12:30 pm.
