Paula Becerra Obituary

Our mom was born in a little shack in the mountains of Santa Rosa, Mexico.  After her mom abandoned her and her sister Chuy, she went on to grow up in Tecolotlan with her cousin Chabela. She really loved living there but once she was a bit older, she went back to live with her father in Santa Rosa. He taught her now to make beans, tortillas, gorditas,  basic things. She learned hard physical labor, helping him climb up and down mountains to pick whatever they planted.

She married in Tecolotlan and lived there until they moved on to Durango where she had the first of many, Victor.  Back to Tecolotlan where she gave birth to our sister Agripina (Coni).  On to Nayarit where Faustino (Fausto) was delivered and moved on to Mexicali where Maria, Leti, Roberto (who passed before a year old), Francisco (Pancho), and Angelina (Kita) were born.  We all then moved to the States, first Santa Paula, then on Hayes Street in Oxnard.  Ending there on Morris Street where Silvia (Chivi) and Elvia were born.

She loved visiting her sister Chuy in Guadalajara and loved all her nieces and nephews - Socorro (Coco), Arturo, Maria de Los Angeles (Cone), Maria de la Luz (Lucy), Angel (passed in 1996), Lourdes, Francisco (Paco), and Julian.  But she really would have rather stayed with her cousin Chabela and her children, Francisco, Maria de Jesus (Chuy), Berta Alicia (Licho), Jose and Maria Elena (Nena) in Tecolotlan. She was most comfortable there since it brought back many happy memories. She had 19 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, as well as great-great grandchildren.

We were able to take her places she never thought she would ever visit.  When she was on the Golden Gate Bridge for the first time, she stood on it in awe and said, “I never thought I would ever be here, I only saw it on TV”. She loved her dad. She loved her house. She loved her crazy children. She loved her candies.   She loved her cigarettes. She especially loved La Virgen de Guadalupe.

We will miss her in our own ways and cannot believe she is gone.
