Nellie Garcia

Nellie Garcia, 83, passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at her home.  She was born September 3, 1940 to Fermin Villavicencio and Angelita Marin in Oxnard.  Raised in La Colonia, she was an advocate for her community.  She believed anyone could overcome any challenge given the willingness to work for it.  Nellie enjoyed baking for her family, sewing dresses for her granddaughter, keeping a beautiful garden, and most of all her tickies (lotto scratchers).  She worked for the County of Ventura Child Protective Services for 30 years until retiring in 2000. 

Nellie is survived by her sons: Manuel G. Garcia, John J Garcia, Jim J Garcia; 7 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her son Leo D Garcia, and daughter Shirley Garcia.

Memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 27 at Reardon Funeral Home, 511 N. A. St., Oxnard.  Interment will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 28 at Santa Clara Cemetery, 2370 N. H. St., Oxnard.  Reception will follow at Nellie’s home in Oxnard.
