Miguel R. Romero (Mike/Cañon) peacefully passed away on September 22, 2021, in Couer D’Alene, Idaho. Miguel was born to Alberto and Anna Maria Romero on May 4, 1939, in El Paso, Texas. Miguel and his family relocated from Texas to Oxnard, California when he was a young child. Miguel attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Elementary school and then, Santa Clara High School. At the age of seventeen, he joined the military where he served four years with the U.S. Air Force.
Upon his return, he married his childhood sweetheart Elena Nava Romero on September 22, 1962. Miguel worked for Mayfair Market in Ventura as a Manager for many years, as a Weight Master for the Oxnard Sanitation Department, and later retired from the City of Camarillo’s Water Treatment Department.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elena Nava Romero of Couer D’Alene, Idaho. They have four children: Michael Romero of Couer D’Alene, Idaho, Ana Tougas (James) of Oxnard, California, Elisa Coleman of Puyallup, Washington, and Monica Murillo (Ray) of Whittier, California. They have five grandchildren; Matthew Tougas (Kate), Kevin Tougas, Laura Tougas, Brianna Foster, Gabriel Murillo, and two great-grandchildren; Skylar and Miles Tougas. Surviving sister, Jessie Muñoz of Phoenix, Arizona.
Miguel was known for his many jokes and entertaining sense of humor. He enjoyed his many trips to Las Vegas and Laughlin over the years and he could be found enjoying any slot machine. Miguel was dedicated to his Catholic faith and attended mass daily until his death. The biggest joy in his life was spending time with his kids and grandchildren.
The services for Miguel Romero will be the following: Thursday, October 14, 2021, with visitation from 5:00-6:00 p.m. and the Rosary from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at Reardon’s Funeral Home located at 511 N. A Street Oxnard, California 93030. The Funeral Mass will be on Friday, October 15, 2021, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. located at 2511 S. C Street Oxnard, California 93033. His final resting place will be at Santa Clara Cemetery located in Oxnard, California.
