It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Michael “Joel” Amaro, our loving son, brother, nephew, cousin, uncle, and friend to all whose lives he touched.
At the age of 45, Joel passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 20, 2021.
He was born on December 30, 1975, in Oxnard, CA. He was a resident of San Pedro, CA where he worked as a third-generation Longshoreman, following in his late father, John Amaro, and his grandfather, Damacio Amaro’s, footsteps. He was a proud member of ILWU13 and recently returned to his hometown of Oxnard, CA. He was born to John Amaro (1951-2021) and Rita Amaro.
He also leaves to cherish his memory by his mother, Rita Amaro, two brothers John J. Amaro (Jennifer) and Tommy R. Amaro (Bernice), sister Monica C. Maestas (Ruben), Nephews; Tommy Amaro, Ethan Maestas-Garcia, Joseph Garnica, Oceano Arroyo, Nieces; Julianna Garnica, Alyssah Arroyo (Nick), Gianna Amaro, Wife of 5 years Tara Dickey, Stepsons; Richard & Nicholas & his beloved dog who was more like his daughter, Bella. He also leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins all of whom he was so grateful for and loved tremendously.
Joel was a loving and caring person who lived his life to the fullest. He enjoyed cooking and his love for nature could keep him occupied all day. When he attended family gatherings, Joel was always the life of the party and made everyone feel welcomed. He will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts.
Joel was preceded in death by Millie Maestas Chacon (Grandmother), Damacio & Josefina Amaro (Grandparents), John Amaro (Father), Tony Amaro (Uncle), Johnny Maestas (Uncle), Gilbert Garcia (Uncle), Flora Castro (Aunt), Mary Solis (Aunt), Anita Gonzales (Aunt), Ernie Contreras (Cousin), and Christopher Solis (Cousin).
You went away so suddenly, and we did not get to say goodbye. You will never be parted because precious memories never die.
A celebration of Joel’s life will be held at Reardon Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 17th. Viewing at 10:00 a.m and services begin at 11:00 a.m.
Following the service, there will be a reception at the Oxnard Imperial Mobile Home Park Club House, 4010 Saviers Rd, Oxnard, CA 93033.
