Born to Joseph and Kathryn (Donlon) Muldoon, Mary Kathleen “Ginty” Muldoon Sargent came early to this world on August 20, 1935. So small a lass, she was brought home in a shoe box. However, she grew so strong of heart and sassy spirit, that nothing could contain her. She was a woman overflowing with love for family, friends, community, tradition, and of course, her faith. Ginty peacefully left us on April 1, 2025.
Ginty was very proud of her deep Oxnard and El Rio roots. A member of one of Oxnard’s first pioneering families, the Donlons, she was a great source of knowledge of local history and a skilled storyteller.
She made friends wherever she went. She understood the value of taking time to slow down and reflect on what is truly important; spending meaningful time with the ones you love, lending an ear, helping those in need and laughter. Ginty could often be found at her desk writing - not typing on a computer – composing letters in her beautiful handwriting, to her many pen pals living all around the country and penning cards to family and friends for all occasions. She never forgot a holiday, birthday, anniversary, wedding, birth, graduation or message of support to those experiencing difficult times. One of her favorite activities was a trip to the store for cards. We often said that Hallmark couldn't survive without her. If you ever received a card from Ginty, know that she chose that card especially for you! By mail or phone, she always kept in touch.
Also a source of pride was being a graduate of the Santa Clara High School class of 1954, where she made many lifelong friends. As secretary of her class, Ginty never wavered from her duties! Planning reunions, annual gatherings, and regularly chatting with her classmates, she kept them connected for over 70 years. Santa Clara class of ’54, your heavenly secretary cherished you!
As you may have gathered from her name, Ginty was Irish and proud of it! If you are feeling the loss of her or another’s passing, please find comfort in this Irish blessing found among her things:
Those we love don’t go away.
They walk beside us every day.
Unseen, unheard, but always near.
Still loved, still missed and very dear.
Ginty is survived by Ray, her loving husband of 69 years; daughters: Karen, Kathleen and Koleen; sons: Denis and Brian; beloved grandchildren: Andrew, Taylor, Gabriel, Caitlin, Abbie and Kacie; great granddaughter Zoey; niece Connie; nephew Jerry; and by her Godchildren. Her son Chuck, brothers Joseph and Bob, and nephew Pat preceded her in passing.
Our family thanks the many people who filled Mom’s life with joy and caring, and who now lift up her heartbroken family as we carry on life without our powerhouse of love!
Memorial Mass for Ginty will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 11 at Santa Clara Chapel, 1333 E. Ventura Blvd., Oxnard. Interment will be private at a later date.
