Mary Ellen DeLuca (nee Ackert) passed away peacefully July 21, 2022, in the presence of both of her children, with her son, Anthony, at her side.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Marion Ackert; grand-niece Megan; nephews Anthony E. DeLuca and Joe DeLuca; and her husband of 40
years, Anthony F. “Tony” DeLuca.
Mom was born in New Paltz, New York, on November 26, 1934. She attended State University New York, Potsdam where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music. It was there that she met our dad, Tony DeLuca.
Mom loved music, cooking, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. She was an active member of Santa Clara Church in Oxnard, California. She also sang with the Gold Coast Concert Chorus for many years. In addition to music, one of mom’s greatest passions was cooking. Mom was an excellent cook, but we think she was probably most famous for her lemon
meringue pie and cream puffs.
Another love of hers was St. John’s Hospital, where she volunteered in the Auxiliary supporting the hospital through fundraising to benefit patient care. Later, she would also volunteer in the nursery as part of the Cuddlers Program, holding and rocking newborns. She eventually became a social member of Pacific Corinthian Yacht Club, where she met her second husband of 8 years, Warren “Doc” Bandy.
We will miss her humor, her cooking, her laughter, and we will forever miss her.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the two agencies who made her final days as peaceful as possible - the staff of Shoreline Care Center in Oxnard, who so lovingly cared for our mother; and Mission Hospice, which provided compassionate physical, spiritual and emotional care to our whole family.
Mom is survived by her second husband, Warren “Doc” Bandy; sister Dorothy “Dot” Chubb of Parker, CO; son and daughter-in-law Anthony & Monica DeLuca; daughter and son-in-law Mary Anne & Marvin Camilon; grandchildren Rocco DeLuca, Melanie DeLuca, Marcus Camilon, Dominick Camilon and Jack Camilon, and many nieces and nephews.
A rosary will be recited at Reardon Funeral Home, 511 N. A St. Oxnard, CA 93030, on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at 6pm. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, September 2, 20222 at Santa Clara Catholic Church, 323 S. E St., Oxnard, CA 93030, at 10am. Burial For Mary will be held at a later date.
