Mary Contreras Obituary

Mary Grace Contreras
Beloved mother and grandmother Mary Grace Contreras was received by our Lord on Friday October 24, 2014 in Ventura California at the age of 88 years. Mary passed away peacefully with the love of her family surrounding her.
Mary was born in Oxnard California on January 30, 1926 to Teresa and Felipe Navarro. She attended school in Oxnard and worked for many years, including time at Channel Islands High School. In 1950, at the age of twenty four, Mary married Philip Contreras and began a marriage of thirty six years. They spent these years lovingly supporting each other in raising their family together. She was a caring mother and wife. After the death of her husband Philip, Mary spent many years volunteering at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Oxnard. She was devoted to the Legion of Mary and Pilgrim Virgin prayer groups. Mom is remembered by her children and numerous family and friends, as a woman of great faith in God, as a loving mother, grandmother and friend. She shared the Word of God through countless lessons of faith to children of all ages. She was a true disciple of Jesus with a strong devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Mary "Mom" is survived by her children Liz (Bob) Crosby, Mike Contreras, Teri (Steve) Kempster, Joe (Valerie) Contreras and John Contreras, her grandchildren and great grandchildren, her brother Henry Navarro and sister Marie Padilla and her nieces and nephews. Mom is preceded in death by her loving husband Philip.
Services will be held at St. Anthony's Catholic Church Thursday November 6, 2014; a rosary at 9 AM followed by a funeral Mass at 10 AM, an Interment will take place at Santa Clara Cemetery. All family and friends are welcome to attend services. A reception will follow at Residence Inn by Marriot, River Ridge 2101 West Vineyard Avenue Oxnard, CA 93036.
