Marieta Garcia, the light of our family, the life of the party, the beautiful mother, sister, aunt, cousin, grandmother, always to be known to us affectionately as Ama, passed away in the predawn hours of Friday, September 11th, 2020, while at Ventura County Medical Center. She was born in Ventura, California, but grew up in Saticoy and attended schools there. She is a graduate of Ventura High School. She met the love of her life while attending Ventura College, Thomas A. Garcia. They were married in 1958 and lived most of their adult lives in Oxnard, California, raising their family there. Marieta held many jobs throughout her life, including at the Saticoy Packing House, Oxnard Frozen Foods Inc, and Olga’s as a seamstress, but none she cherished more than her role as homemaker, mother, and wife.
She is predeceased by her mother, Marie Navarro Garcia, her father, Pantaleon Garcia, her husband, Thomas A. Garcia, her brother, Robert Garcia, and her sister, Donna Johnsen. Marieta leaves behind her brother, Pantaleon “Pat” Garcia, the eldest son, Thomas F. Garcia, daughter, Marie Lopez, and her youngest son, Christopher J.Garcia, and wife Lucretia. She also leaves behind her niece Denise Johnsen and husband Steve and son Tim, as well as grandchildren Brandon Hernandez and partner Christina, Chandra Farber, Skyler Garcia, Alaura Lopez, and Zachary Childers. Marieta was also fortunate enough to live to see the birth of her great-grandchildren, Grace Farber and Vayda Hernandez, and to meet Brandon’s adopted children, Noah and Mariah.
Marieta loved her family, walking in the park, sewing, dancing to her favorite music (Country Western, 50’s Rock ‘n’ Roll, and Mariachi Music), and making people smile and laugh. She also loved Hollywood, especially old Hollywood, and everything about it, and adored Marilyn Monroe. In fact, her daughter called her the “Marilyn Monroe of Saticoy.” At family gatherings, you would often find her behind the lens of a camera. She just loved taking pictures and videos of her family and bedazzling all her photo albums and scrapbooks.
A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Reardon Funeral Home, 511 N. A Street Oxnard, CA 93030 this Friday, September 18th, which will be followed by a graveside ceremony at Santa Clara Cemetery, 2370 N. H Street Oxnard, CA 93036.
