Marie Frances “Baird” Stewart, a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and a devoted servant of God, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2026, at the age of 83, surrounded by her husband, daughters, son, and comforted by her deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ.
Marie was born on December 01, 1942, in Clinton, MA, to Margaret and Francis Baird. From an early age, she was rooted in the Catholic faith, a foundation that guided her throughout her life. She remained a faithful member of Santa Clara Church, where she attended Mass and participated in church groups for as long as her health allowed.
Marie married Harold “Stu” Stewart on March 23, 1963, and together they built a loving home centered on faith, family, and compassion. She was a devoted wife, a nurturing mother who instilled strong values and a love of God in her 5 children and 6 grandchildren. Her compassion for supporting others culminated in a career as a nursing assistant for over twenty years providing kindness and comfort to her patients.
Marie found joy in caring for Stu for over 63 years, helping others, and attending Mass. She loved reading mystery and suspense novels and completing crossword puzzles. She was especially known for her gentle spirit and unwavering faith and is remembered by many as the kindest person they have ever met. Her life was a reflection of Christ’s love, and she touched all who knew her. The family finds comfort in knowing she is now reunited with the Lord and those who have gone before her. Marie will patiently wait far into the future for her loving husband so they both can rest in eternal peace.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Stu; her children, James, Marie, Diane (Scott), Tracy, and Daniel (Shannon); her grandchildren, Elizabeth, Kristine, MacKenzie, Jacob, Gavin, and Landree; and her siblings, Francis and Michael; all of whom will carry on her legacy of faith, kindness, and devotion. She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Francis Baird.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 10 at 10:00 a.m. at Santa Clara Church, Oxnard with a reception immediately following at the Knights of Columbus.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dementia Society of America in her memory.
“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”
Ephesians 4:32
