Maria Victoria Platteter passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at her home in Oxnard, California. Her affection, love and laughter lives on with all of those who knew her through the years. Maria was born on April 9, 1933 to Antonio and Josefa Ortega in Madrid, Spain.
In 1959, she met Joseph Michael Platteter while he was stationed in the Air Force in Seville, Spain. They wed in 1960, going on to have two children, Mary Jo and Michael as other deployments found them in the Philippines and New York and California. Through the years, Maria worked for the Oxnard School District as a Teacher’s Aide which found her working with younger children, which she immensely enjoyed. After retiring, she volunteered at St. John’s Regional Medical Center for over ten years. Maria’s hobbies included a love and proficiency with sewing, cooking, singing and dancing — being the toast of Seville’s annual Féria and El Rocio pilgrimage events in Spain for many years. Her love of travel brought her back often to Spain to visit family and friends, as well as many excursions around the United States and Europe.
Maria is survived by her husband of sixty two years, Joseph Michael “Mike” Platteter; her son Michael and his husband Marc Norman of Camarillo, California; her grandchildren Vanessa Platteter of Oregon, Hilary Siders and Michael Evans of Ohio; her great-grandchildren Ian Workman, Adam Williams, Amaya and Aummerie Siders; and great-great-grandchild Magnolia Maryann. Maria’s daughter, Mary Jo Perry, predeceased her.
All are welcome to a Rosary Service at 6pm, July 5th at Reardon Funeral Home, 511 N A St. Oxnard. The Funeral Mass will be held on July 6th at 10am at Santa Clara Church, 323 South E Street in Oxnard.
