Margaret Daniel Obituary

Margaret T. Daniel, a life-long resident of Oxnard, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on December 26, 2021, at the age of 100 years old and 6 months. Margaret, or Mamie as she would like to be called ( a nickname she gave herself named after Mamie Eisenhower), was born June 8, 1921, to Manuel and Celsa Ramirez in Oxnard, CA. Mamie attended Wilson Elementary School, Oxnard High School, and Ventura College. As an entrepreneur, she opened Margaret T. Daniel Secretarial Services in 1952 out of her home, eventually moving her office to Cooper Road in La Colonia. It remained open until her retirement in 1992. As a self-employed Tax preparer, realtor, Notary Public, and Accountant, Mamie specialized in helping local farmers and farmworkers in the community with items like filling out immigration papers and affidavits of support. Margaret retired at the age of 92. On October 14th, 1950, Mamie married William H. Daniel. They enjoyed 42 years of marriage and raised two children, Gene and Carmen (Samaniego) Daniel.

As a devout Catholic, mom dedicated much of her time to many organizations and committees. She was a member of Santa Clara Church, St. Vincent De Paul, and the Association of Notary Publics. She served on the board for the Oxnard Girls Club for 12 years before they joined the Boys Club to form what is known today as the Boys and Girls Club of America.

Mamie was a member of the Young Ladies Institute and served ten years for the Selective Services of Ventura County, working on the Draft Board. We later discovered Mamie had signed the draft card of her would-be future Son-in-law Juan Carlos. From 1948 - 1949 she served on the building committee for Cristo Rey Church, overseeing its construction. She also helped create a building fund for the original Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in La Colonia.

In her lifetime, mom had prepared hundreds of thousands of corn tortillas for the yearly enchilada cookouts for Santa Clara Elementary and Santa Clara High Schools. As a sous chef to Aunt Virginia, she helped host elegant dinners for Santa Clara High School faculty. Word soon spread, and for years mom and Aunt Virginia would host dinners for the visiting Bishops after Confirmation ceremonies.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband William H. Daniel, son Gene Daniel, parents Manuel and Celsa Ramirez; brothers Herman and Salvador Ramirez; sisters Amelia "Emily" Ramirez and Alice Galvan.

She is survived by her daughter Carmen (Juan Carlos) Samaniego, six grandchildren; Pam, Carlo, Valerie Samaniego, Stephanie, Hannah, Bill Daniel, and eight great-grandchildren. Brothers John Florentino (Maria), Seferino Ramirez (Helen), sisters Elvira Crutcher and Dolores Ramirez. Countless nieces, nephews, godchildren, and dear friends. Later in life, she was blessed with three wonderful guardian angels with who we will be eternally grateful. Sally Gomez, Rosa Taboada, and Emmie Chan. Thank you for all the kindness, love, and care you showed mom during her final months.

The Rosary will be held at 9:30 am, Saturday, January 8, 2022, followed by the Celebration of Life Mass at 10:00 am at the Santa Clara Chapel in El Rio. Burial immediately to follow at the Santa Clara Cemetery in Oxnard.
