Manuela Martinez Obituary

The family of Manuela P. Martinez would like to announce with immense sadness that she passed away at the age of 88 on Saturday, January 27, 2024, in her home surrounded by the love of her friends and family in Oxnard.

Manuela was born on December 25, 1935, in Zacatecas, Mexico to Aurelio Perez and Amalia A. Perez. She was known to be a very strong and fierce woman who never gave up and always powered through the hardest times she endured. She showed how much she cared for and loved those around her in her own special way by making sure you ate food or told you to get food to eat. She was the type of mom and Nana who always told you to eat food or asked if you ate food while also telling you to eat more food. Manuela always loved making homemade tortillas for the neighbors as well as numerous meals in exchange for any foods, fruits, vegetables, and flowers she could get.

While Manuela loved to cook, she also loved to tend to her flowers in the garden that her husband created for her, knowing that they both shared that love and passion for gardening. She also loved getting her daily exercise by walking around the neighborhood and enjoying numerous conversations with her neighbors.

Anyone who met and engaged with Manuela was so lucky to have known her as she always gave her homemade tortillas that she always made from scratch. She was an inspiration to those closest to her because of the strength she showcased while she was alive.

Manuela joins the love of her life, Heriberto “Beto” M. Martinez, Sr. in Heaven where they continue to be together forever after being married for over 70 years. Manuela is survived by her siblings: Carmen Tinoco, Maria Reyes, Alicia Liera, Anna Allen, Lupe Reyes, Sandra Jimenez, Amalia Cortez, Jesus Perez, Francisco Perez, Mario Perez, and Javier Perez; son, Heriberto “Eddie” Martinez, Jr. and spouse, Rosalinda Martinez; daughters: Maria Briones and spouse, Anthony Briones, Sr. and Norma Martinez-Turner and spouse, John Turner; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Manuela “Nana” will always be remembered and loved by those who had the privilege of knowing her and she will be dearly missed. We will continue to love her and celebrate the life she has lived by keeping her in our hearts forever.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday, February 23 at Reardon Funeral Home, 511 N. A St., Oxnard. Rosary will begin at 6:30.
