"It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Luth "Balot" Van Dyck, 66, beloved wife, sister, auntie and friend. She passed away at Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks, CA on Saturday August 05, 2023, surrounded by family and loved ones.
Luth is survived by her loving husband, Ron, siblings Mina, Laura, Rita, Nelson, Dante, and Manuel, 28 nieces and nephews, and her cherished cats, Riker and Ripley. She is preceded in death by her father Wenceslao Salonga, mother Consolacion, and elder siblings Erlita, Ernesto, Delia, and Eduardo.
Luth was born on December 9, 1956 in Pampanga, Philippines. As the 6th of 11 children, she was always a headstrong and vibrant presence within her family and community. In her youth she was often the one to talk back or get in trouble; she was never scared to speak her mind. Luth had endless friends and made new friends everywhere she went. She was born a leader and organizer, and was always the one to take charge.
Luth received a nursing degree in 1978 from the Family Clinic School of Nursing in the Philippines. She moved to San Diego, California in 1983, following several family members who had come to the states.
Luth met the love of her life, Ron "Dusty" Van Dyck, through a mutual friend of her sister, and they married in the summer of 1994.
Luth loved being around her family and friends, playing bingo, traveling, and cooking for her loved ones. She was an active member of many civic organizations within her community as well as her church. She lived her life to the fullest. She was compassionate and protective, always putting others before herself. Luth was eager to please and take care of those around her; she wanted to love and be loved. Her generosity and big heart have touched all who knew her; she will be dearly missed and her memory will live on in our hearts.
