Lorraine Elizabeth Powell, 73, of Las Vegas, Nevada passed away peacefully on October 12, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 19, 1951 to Donald and Gloria Kelsick in St. John's, Antigua.
Lorraine's greatest joy came from spending time with her family and fostering a loving environment. Lorraine was lucky enough to have two great loves. Stephen Boisvert, with whom she spent 45 wonderful, loving years and raised four children. In her senior years, she was happily reunited with Gary Powell, the father of her eldest daughter, and her high school sweetheart. Both loved her dearly, as do we all.
Lorraine attended Hueneme High school after arriving in America, where she left her loving impression on each and every friend she made. One of her greatest memories was performing with the school band at events as a flag & spirit girl. She went on to work as a multi-line telephone operator for many years, until she decided to stay home to care for her family full time. As her children grew older, Lorraine was able to pursue a career as a teacher at a preschool in Oxnard.. She was also a teacher and team leader at YMCA for several years. "Teacher Lorraine," was a favorite among many children because of her loving, fun, and patient nature. Her innate ability to provide comfort and love made her an exceptional mother, wife, and role model for many.
Her interests were a reflection of her charming, positive personality. She enjoyed decorating, baking, upbeat music, and kept a strong love for the ocean, often collecting beautiful items that aligned with that love. She was extremely giving, both with her time, words, and encouragement, but was never afraid to vocalize what she thought someone needed to hear, especially if that someone was one of her children.
Lorraine will be dearly missed by all who had the joy of knowing her. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and love. Never to be forgotten, Lorraine's journey has been a testament to her warm heart, resilience, and unencumbered positivity. Although we find it unbearable to live without her, we take comfort knowing she is in heaven, dancing with all of God's angels, no longer suffering from any health problems.
" A mother's love is the sun that warms our hearts, the rain that nourishes our souls, and the wind that carries us forward."
Lorraine is survived by her husband Gary Powell; children: Melissa Contreras, Steve Boisvert, Jason Boisvert and Danielle Greenwood;10 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; siblings: Gloria Decambra-Sparks, Sonia Allred, Crystal Chambers, Denise Middleton, Joanne Hadley and Gary Middleton; as well as many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
