It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of LoRena Marie Davey McDougal on January 4, 2024.
LoRena was born in Oxnard on September 11, 1960, to John and Mary Davey. She was the oldest and only daughter of five children. Influenced by her father, a teacher, she became a lover of the great outdoors, spending time with him camping and hiking. She also had many special memories with her grandparents William and Rose Haydock of Oxnard, and C.D. and Louise Davey of Camarillo.
LoRena graduated from Santa Clara High School. After High School, she followed in her father's footsteps and attended the University of California at Santa Barbara to receive her bachelors in education in 1983. She began her career as a teacher at Ocean View Elementary School, where she would continue to teach for thirty-five years. She also continued on to receive her master's in education from Cal Lutheran University.
LoRena had met the love of her life, John McDougal in High School. They were married on December 30, 1985 at Santa Clara Church. They were truly soul mates and when they weren't working, they were inseparable. They loved to read, camp, hike, fish, garden, and do home improvements. LoRena loved to cook but John was not allowed in the kitchen. He loved everything she prepared though, including her baklava and spanakopita, in honor of John's love of Greece. In recent years , the couple enjoyed walking with their four legged friend, Blue. Besides their many camping trips, John and LoRena had what they called "Our Big Trip" to England and Scotland.
LoRena is survived by her husband, John; mother, Mary; brothers: William (Sheryl), David (Mark) and Wade (Beverly); her nephews Zach, John and Adam. She was preceded in death by her father, John and her brother, Scott.
