Kenneth “Ken” Gardiner Obituary

Ken Gardiner, 66, passed away on March 14, 2024 after a lengthy illness. Ken was born in Glasgow, Scotland and moved to New York as a young child. His family moved to the West Coast and he spent the rest of his life living in Southern California.

Ken was diagnosed with type I diabetes as a child and spent his whole life having to live with that difficulty. Despite his health issues, he enjoyed playing soccer all throughout his young adulthood. Once he became a father, his first son and him connected through their mutual love of hockey. Ken played in adult leagues and was also a coach for his son’s teams throughout the years.

A contractor for most of his life, Ken built beautiful homes overlooking the ocean and worked with some of the most renowned Architects in California. Ken enjoyed gambling and Las Vegas was one of his favorite places to be. He loved to play Blackjack, which he played up to the day that he was called home. After a lifetime of diabetes, it caught up to him, but he never gave up the fight. In between life’s challenges, he always had hope and reminded his three children of the family motto, “Bydand,” which means to be steadfast: stay and fight, and to keep going whatever the difficulties.

Ken’s legacy remains with his children Terrence, Derrick, Kaitlin, and daughter-in-law Monique.
