Janet May Seaton Reid passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on July 4, 2025.
Born in Windber, Pennsylvania, on July 12, 1942, to Frances Viola Seaton (Reeser) and John Raymond Seaton, Sr., Janet moved to Oxnard at the age of four and made it her lifelong home. A bright and driven student, she began her education at Ventura College, and later earned a mathematics degree from UC Berkeley and a master’s degree from UCLA and UC San Diego. She launched her distinguished federal career at the Naval Base Ventura County, Point Mugu, and proudly retired as a GS14 after decades of service. Janet was known for her intelligence, dedication, and mentorship.
Janet was deeply involved in her community. A longtime member of the women’s organization Beta Sigma Phi, she found joy and purpose in philanthropic service, and helped lead countless efforts supporting local causes. Through her sorority, she made many cherished, lifelong friendships.
Janet was also a voracious reader, puzzle enthusiast, and devoted grandmother who treasured time spent with her family. She was especially known for her thoughtful handwritten notes, her ability to remember every birthday, and her warm and welcoming spirit that made everyone feel like family.
Janet is survived by her husband, Ronald Reid; daughter and son-in-law, Christine Reid and Alexander Brown; and beloved grandchildren, Dalton and Gibbs Brown. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, John Raymond Seaton.
A celebration of her life will be held at River Ridge Golf Club on Sunday, September 28, from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
In remembrance of Janet, donations may be made to Livingston Memorial Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice or the Humane Society of Ventura County.
