James Russell Peterson Jr. was born on May 11, 1959 in Olathe, Kansas and was moved to Oxnard at 4 months old.
He attended Larsen Elementary, Blackstock Junior High and graduated from Channel Islands High School in 1977. He attended Ventura College and obtained his welding certificate. Jimmy worked many years for Abex Aerospace until they closed. He bought his own Tig welder and continued welding on his own. He was in the plumbers union as an apprentice when St. John's Hospital was being built. He also worked Longshore at Pt. Hueneme as a casual.
As a youth he played Little League baseball and Pop Warner football. He enjoyed surfing and later found snow skiing. Jimmy was a member of the Los Padres Ski Club. He loved riding, weather it was a bicycle or a motorcycle. His pride and joy was his police Harley Davidson.
On past Mother's Day he entered the hospital and the next day (his 67th Birthday) he was informed that he had suffered a stroke. Jimmy lived 5 1/2 weeks at St. John's Hospital then passed away on June 19, 2026.
He was predeceased by his father, James Peterson, Jimmy is remembered and eternally loved by his mother, Evonne Peterson and his brother Terry Peterson of Oxnard, and his sister Cindy Peterson of Big Bear, CA.
A Celebration of Life will be held on July 15, 2026 at Grace Bible Church, 936 West 5th Street, Oxnard at 1:00 p.m. with reception following.
