James (Jim) McLay of Oxnard California passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on September 1 2021. Born in Kilsyth Scotland, he remained a true Scot to the end. He enjoyed visiting his homeland as often as he could over the years and retained a life long passion for Scottish culture.
James was the youngest of 5 children, he grew up in the countryside and enjoyed fishing, swimming and playing soccer. After finishing school he went on to learn his trade, carpentry and joined the Air Force cadets. Soon after he met the love of his life, Elizabeth (Betty) at a dance hall in Glasgow Scotland. They were married shortly thereafter. James was then called to serve in the Royal Air Force . A few years later, they emigrated to California where they raised their family.
A carpenter by trade, James had a successful career working for the film studios in Los Angeles as well as an independent general contractor. He loved animals, especially his dogs, and maintained a passion for soccer, fishing, and golf. He was a devout Catholic and cherished his faith and his family the most.
James is survived by his loving wife Betty of 66 wonderful years, his 6 children, 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Margaret McLay and his 4 siblings.
James will always be lovingly remembered and dearly missed.
A funeral mass will be held for James on Friday, October 29, 2021 at 10am at Santa Clara Catholic Church, 323 S.E St., Oxnard, Ca.
