A Celebration of Life for Jacqueline LaFaye Johnson Holloway Hester
December 20, 1948 - September 23, 2021
Jacqueline LaFaye Johnson Holloway Hester, best known as "Jackie" to all her cherished family, friends, and business colleagues, was born December 20, 1948, in Marshall, Texas, to the late Turner James Johnson, Jr. and Dorothy Ruth Johnson. She was an intelligent, spirited, driven, caring, charismatic, and quick-witted woman of her time, leaving an impactful legacy of a God-fearing woman who was a mom, grandmother, wife, business leader, and successful entrepreneur.
The formative years of Jackie's life began in Marshall, TX, where she attended elementary school, and later in Oxnard, California, where she graduated from Oxnard High School. After graduation, she attended Oxnard College and Lavern College, and her professional career was born working at Ventura General and Oxnard Community hospitals. Jackie realized her most cherished role on July 11, 1974, when she birthed her only child and beloved daughter Monique Latrese Holloway with the late Reginal Lenard Holloway. In 1977, Jackie and her young family relocated to Ann Arbor, Michigan. For 20 years, Jackie thrived in Ann Arbor, raised her daughter, made her mark as a businesswoman, established many friends and business relationships, and flourished in the health care industry.
Professionally, Jackie was a trailblazer and an inspiration for African American women and women overall. Before her entrepreneurial endeavors, Jackie worked for over ten years learning and climbing the corporate ladder, and held several positions in the medical field. During her early career, she learned from various functions that included lab/x-ray clerk, medical secretary, social worker, counselor, clinical staff supervisor, and manager and field supervisor of Quality Care Home Health Services. In 1984, Jackie took her knowledge, expertise, faith, and “Try God” optimistic attitude and bravely pursued her own business venture, Clinicare Home Health Services, Inc., a rehabilitative home health care agency, the first of many business ventures led by Jackie’s enterprising spirit. Subsequently, she established Resources Unlimited to provide additional assistance to her home health care clients. Before leaving Ann Arbor, she developed AmerCare Group Inc., providing home health care staffing and medical resource management services.
In 1997, Jackie relocated back to Oxnard, California, with her daughter and grandchild. Jackie’s zest for life continued as she reacclimated her family, married business owner Eugene Hester, and continued operating her business, AmerCare Group Inc. In addition to managing her business and enjoying married life, the family remained a central and essential aspect of her life. She maintained a consistent and active role in the lives of her daughter, son-in-law, and her grandchildren, who she adored. Jackie’s passion and love for home interiors became the inspiration for her final entrepreneurial venture. In 2005 she merged her creativity and business acumen to develop Euro Contempo Interiors and Design Furniture, Inc.
Jackie was a faith-filled, motivated, resourceful, energetic, kind, and generous woman who was never at a loss for words or a new business venture and always believed in a way to make it happen. She had a wonderful sense of humor, a smile that would light up the room, a joy of life, and on the morning of September 23, 2021, her bright light was called and carried home by the Lord’s single footprints in the sand.
Jackie was preceded in death by her loving parents, Dorothy Ruth Jefferson-Johnson and Turner James Johnson Jr.; brother, Turner James Johnson, III; sister, GaSandra Layetta Johnson-Baldwin; father of daughter Monique, Reginal Lenard Holloway; step-granddaughter, Angel Hester (Eugene Hester II).
