Jack Hiler Obituary

Our hearts are broken with the loss of our Father Jack Hiler.

Jack Hiler passed away at the age of 86 years old at his home in Oxnard CA on January 6, 2023, with family by his side.
Jack was born February 24, 1936, In Muskogee Oklahoma to the parents of Benton Hiler & Virgie Huskey. The oldest of 4 brothers Jimmie B, Curtis and William. In 1941 the family left Oklahoma settling in Shafter CA.

Jack went on a blind date with his cousin Melvin Glass where he met and fell in love with the most beautiful girl, Irene Haselden. They were married in 1955, in Wasco CA. In 1957 they moved from Shafter, settling in Oxnard CA. They had 2 daughters Debbie & Julie.

Jack was a member of Local 12 International Union of Operating Engineers as a Heavy Equipment Operator. In 1977 Jack & Irene decided to try something different. During their semi-retired years, they worked and did a lot of fishing at the following resorts; Havasua Lake California, Temple Bar Resort Arizona, Echo Bay Resort Nevada, and Lake Mead Resort Nevada. In 1996 They finally retired coming back to their home in Oxnard.

In 2017 Jack & Irene started Jack’s Metal Detecting Business Just about every day you would find them both at the beach or the parks looking for that next buried treasure!! Jack was never without his metal detector. He would be driving along, see a park, and stop to make a few passes to see what he may find. It was amazing all the interesting treasures he has found over the years!!! Pop found it and mom tested it with her “Gold” & “Diamond” Tester. They were members of the Gold Coast Treasure Hunter Club.

Jack’s hobbies over the years included raising and selling birds of all varieties. Cockatiels, Button Quail, Macaws, Golden Pheasants, Canaries and Cockatoos. They went to storage unit auctions, estate sales, garage sales and 2nd hand stores.
Both Pop & Mom loved camping, fishing & hunting, making their yearly trips to Huntington Lake with the family. Pop was one of those guys who could fix just about anything. Always tinkering with something. Jack & Irene were married for 67 amazing years.

With the passing of Irene on November 21, 2022 and his passing shortly after, we feel he just simply couldn’t live without her. He missed her and his heart was broken. Today they are together once again holding each other for eternity.
