Grace Hernandez, 90, a longtime resident first in Oxnard, then later in Camarillo, passed away on Friday, October 21, 2022. 

Grace was born on April 2, 1932, to Serafina Preciado de Vargas and Jose Vargas, in Autlán, Jalisco, Mexico. Her pride and joy were her seven children and happily dedicated her life to supporting and loving her family. After surviving her battle with cancer in 1993, she was blessed with twenty-nine additional years she enjoyed with her family of 17 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, loving and supportive nieces/nephews and many others who loved her. She enjoyed taking trips with her family, knitting her famous slippers, never passing up a family party, cooking delicious meals to bring her family together, and passionately cheering for the Dodgers and the Lakers. She will forever be remembered for her selfless devotion to her family, the love she showed everyone she met, her love for life, and her positive attitude to continue moving forward through life’s toughest challenges. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all of those who have loved, supported and made her life more meaningful. 

Grace was preceded in death by her parents, her four sisters, Socorro Sanchez, Basilia “Chila” Valles, Eustolia “Toby” Valles, and Rosario “Chayo” Lopez. She is survived by her brother Salvador “Chavo” Vargas, her children Al Hernandez (Cecilia), Sergio Hernandez (Jane), Rick Hernandez (Ana Maria), George Hernandez (Barbie), Mireya Shoemaker (Ron), Jeannen Takasugi (Russell), Mattie Hernandez-Bozzo (Mark). Grandchildren: Jason Hernandez (Natasha), Ashley Bachelor (Keegan), Jennifer Munoz-Hernandez, Stephanie Hernandez, Bryant Hernandez, Mathew Shoemaker, Kristen Hernandez (Nick), Christopher Hernandez, Jessica Frank (Joseph), Serafina Bozzo, Michael Hernandez, Kevin Hernandez, Nicolette Hernandez, Mark Anthony Bozzo, Taylor Takasugi, Christian Hernandez, & Antoinette Bozzo.  Great-grandchildren: Sergio Munoz, Francisco Munoz, Maddux Bachelor, Jayden Hernandez, Ava Bachelor and Jasmine Hernandez. 

Thank you, Mom, for all you have done for us. We feel honored to have had you as our mother. As you always said, “Adelante.”

Services will be held on November 3, 2022 at Reardon Funeral Home in Oxnard, CA from 4:00 - 6:00 PM with a rosary following at 6:30 PM. A funeral service will be held on November 4, 2022 at Santa Clara Catholic Church at 10:00 AM. A burial will follow at Santa Clara Catholic Cemetery and a Celebration of Life will follow at Marriott Ventura Beach from 2:00 - 6:00 PM.
