Gordon Noble Garner, 82, of Port Hueneme, California, passed at Kaiser Woodland Hills Medical Center on April 17, 2023, after battling to recover from a major stroke that occurred on December 29, 2022.
Gordon was born to Gladys Taylor Harewood, raised by Cyril Harewood and Stokley Garner, on March 20, 1941, in Newtown, a district of Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. Gordon emigrated from Trinidad and Tobago to the concrete jungle of Queens, New York, where he lived most of his adult life. Upon retirement Gordon and his wife, Justine relocated to Port Hueneme, California.
Gordon truly leaves a legacy behind; he represented the definition of an honorable God-fearing man. He was a blessing to everyone: his wife, children, family, friends, and others. Gordon was an extremely hardworking, dedicated family man. He would always put himself last in order to make sure he was able to meet everyone else’s needs. To say that he was a very generous man would be an understatement. Gordon was also known for his beautiful spirit and personality; he drew people in with his funny sense of humor, good advice, and kind heart.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys Taylor Harewood, Cyril Harewood, and Stokley Garner; his older brother Selwyn; and his sister, Cynthia John. Gordon is survived by his
wife Justine of 50 years, along with four children, Natasha, Tomeka Thompson, Shawn, and Dwayne; son-in-law Cornell and daughter-in-law Kathleen; seven grandchildren, Shaquille, Tiffany, Jasmine, Shawn Jr., Kira, Keith, and Jeremiah; brother, Orville (Ken)Taylor; nieces Donnamarie and Kaesun (Debbie)John, and many other loving nieces, nephews, and relatives.
Gordon will be sorely missed but never forgotten.
A visitation from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. (PST) and Celebration of Life service from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. (PST) for Gordon is planned for Friday, May 5, 2023 at the Reardon Funeral Home located at 511 N. A Street, Oxnard, California 93030. Family, friends, and friends of family welcome to attend.
