Gloria Maria Chastain

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gloria Velasquez Chastain, age 70. She suddenly passed away in her home on April 9, 2025, in Visalia. 

Gloria was born on November 26, 1954, in Oxnard, California, and lived most of her life in Oxnard. In 1973, she graduated from Santa Clara High School and continued her education at Ventura College. Soon after, Gloria had three children.

Several years later, she met Danny Chastain. They married on November 18, 2006, and lived in Visalia, California. Gloria worked at the Records Office in Tulare County. Before her move to Visalia, she was employed with the Ventura County Clerk and Records Office. Her career training began with the Elections Division Office and continued in the Records Office. 

Gloria’s favorite hobbies included showcasing her late husband’s 62’Chevy Impala Sport in car shows and gathering with the Impalas Car Club her husband Danny founded in 2009. Other hobbies included: collecting Tinkerbell figurines, watching movies, visiting Disneyland, and going to different casinos. Gloria enjoyed attending gatherings with family and friends.

She is survived by her three children: Richard V. Ortiz Jr. (Francine), Irene O. Freeman (Nicholas), Cathy V. Ortiz (Joseph). Her Grandchildren: Reina, Michael, Romeo, Ezekiel,   William, Isaac and Layla. Step Grandchildren: Precious, Antoinette, Robert,Tyler, Brody and Harlen. Great Grandchild: Neveah.  Siblings: Yolanda Pina (Armando), David Velasquez, Caroline Valenzuela, and Olivia Palacio (Joe). She is preceded in death by her husband Danny Chastain and her parents David N. Velasquez, and Maria Socorro Santana Velasquez.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 8 at Reardon Funeral Home, 511 North A Street, Oxnard. Rosary will begin at 6:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday May 9 at Santa Clara Church, 323 South E Street, Oxnard. Interment will follow at Santa Clara Cemetery, Oxnard.
