Ernest Anthony Carrasco, age 77, also known as Ernie Jr. and Big Ernie, passed away peacefully at his home with his loving family by his side on November 7, 2018.  

 

Ernie was born to Ernest Provencio and Margaret Cobos Carrasco on June 17, 1941 in Los Angeles and raised in Socorro, Texas and Oxnard, California.  He was the first-born grandson on both sides of his family.  He graduated from Oxnard High School in 1959, and was a standout baseball player.  He attended Orange Coast College where they won the Baseball State Championship.

 

He and his father were owners of Carrasco Trucking for over 50 years.  Ernie is survived by his wife, Dolores Avila Carrasco, his high school sweetheart, married for 58 years; five children: Ernie III married to Lily, Thomas, Marian married to Marco Nungaray, Diane, and Susan Carrasco; four grandchildren: Teri, Ernie IV married to Kathrina, Daniel Carrasco, and Robert Anthony Carrasco Lopez; and six great-grandchildren: Ernie V, Jim, Juniper, Calvin, Noah, and Charlie Carrasco; brother Benny and wife Sharon Carrasco and numerous nephews, nieces and family members.    

 

Known for his work ethic, integrity, sense of humor, and zest for life, Ernie gave much love to his family and friends.  He loved baseball and coached his sons at Statham–American Little League.  He established and played on the Carrasco Trucking Semi-Pro baseball team throughout the ‘70s.   Travel was one of his joys visiting 47 of the United States; Canada and Mexico. 

 

He is proceeded in death by his parents; sister Gloria Urango; several uncles, aunts and family members.
