Charles Lopez Calderon, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2024 at the age of 89 in his home in El Rio. Born at the Camarillo Ranch, he lived a life full of love, adventure, and devotion to his family and faith.
A man of God, Charles, best known as “Charlie”, exemplified the virtues of kindness, humility, and unwavering dedication throughout his life. He shared a beautiful partnership with his beloved wife, Julia, who was also his greatest companion in life and together, they created a loving home filled with laughter and warmth.
Charlie had a zest for life that shone through in his hobbies. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and classic car enthusiast. While later in his life he focused his time watching western movies, baseball and tending to his fruit trees. He enjoyed the occasional visits with family and friends which gave him the opportunity to share stories about his past.
Known as Papa by his family, he is survived by his children: Genevieve Harris, Nellie Lindsay, Lora Sawyer, and Steven Calderon; 21 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and sister Romona Calderon, who will forever carry forward his legacy of love, faith, and appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. He was preceded in heaven by his lovely wife of 67 years, Julia (Nana) Calderon; sons: Charles (Dede) Calderon, Victor Calderon; grandson Vernon Stroud; parents Seferino and Angelina Calderon; and siblings: Juan, Paul, Jess, Ignacio, John, Noberta, Margaret, Chennie, Trini, and Nellie.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 23, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Reardon Funeral Home, 511 North A St, Oxnard. The funeral service will begin at 6:00 p.m. Burial at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park will be held on Thursday, October 24 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception at Pacific Coast Ministries, 301 Bernoulli Circle, Oxnard at approximately 1:00 pm. Charles will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in our hearts and memories. We are grateful for the time we had with him and the many lessons he imparted onto us.
