It’s with a heavy heart we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother Cathy Vernon-Williams. Cathy was born on May 17, 1957, in the City of Oxnard to her parents Carol and Del Vernon. Cathy attended Santa Clara High School (Class of 1975) making many lifelong friends. She was a girly girl, a tom boy, and the oldest of a family of four children. She dedicated most of her life’s work to customer service. She worked as a manager at Target, Home Base, House to Home, Blockbuster Video, and Michaels. Her favorite place to work by far was Michaels. It was there where she was able to teach classes and share her passion for crafting with any person wanting to learn or willing to take a journey with her. She was an exceptional teacher and always found joy in helping others create something beautiful from nothing. She cherished her time at Michaels so much that she kept a Michaels polo shirt as a keepsake after retiring. There was one thing she truly dedicated herself to above all others, her children. She worked so many hours at each job, to ensure we all had clothes, a safe place to live, food on the table, and everything we could ask for. She was a single mother who had to play both roles. She didn’t complain about it, she just figured it out. She was the person we would call when we needed advice. She was the person we called when we needed to vent. She was our rock. She was the person we needed. And our hearts are broken.
Cathy is survived by her loving children Joey, Ronnie, Chris Williams, and Jessica Howery. Daughters-in-law Tina, Leanne, and Miranda Williams. Son-in-law Jason Howery. Brothers David, Mike, and John Vernon. Countless nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and extended family. And her pride and joy, her grandchildren: Sydney, Avery, Brooklyn, Jayson, Zack, Josh, Clayton, Quinn, Cash, Owen, and Mia. Lastly, her very best friend Kathy Kershaw. She was preceded in death by her mother and our storyteller, Carol Vernon. She is now connected to her in heaven, talking and laughing, as only they know how.
Cathy was a member of St Paul's Episcopalian Church in Santa Paula, where she found solace and community. She enjoyed crafting, drawing, painting, journaling, and watching her beloved Dodgers play. However, nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her children and grandchildren. Cathy's family meant the world to her, and she loved them unconditionally. Her hope was to see all her family together.
A memorial service for Cathy will be held on July 21st, 2023, at 1pm at Reardon Funeral Home, located at 511 N A St Oxnard, CA 93030.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her honor to St Paul's Episcopal and Emmanuel Lutheran Church at 117 N 7th St, Santa Paula, CA 93060. From all the Williams Family, we are eternally grateful to everyone who have reached out, have come to our homes, or just shared a brief memory. Cathy will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched with her kindness and creativity. She is whole again. May she rest in peace.
