Cathie Eileen Cook

Cathie Eileen Cook was born to Edward Thomas Schmunck and Mildred Constance (Schmidt) Schmunck on June 2, 1950, in Kenosha, Wisconsin. After a long illness, Cathie passed away peacefully in her sleep February 8, 2022.

When her mother married Jesse Cook in 1952, Cathie gained two step-siblings, Sharon & Stephen Cook. The family moved to Oxnard, California, and increased to 6 siblings with the births of Constance and Jess Jr.

Cathie lived in Oxnard, California, for most of her life. She attended Rio Plaza Elementary School, Rio del Valle Jr. High School, and she was in the second graduating class of Rio Mesa High School in 1968. She married her high-school sweetheart, Daniel Ramos, at Santa Clara Catholic Church in 1969 and together they had two sons, Jeremy Troy and Ryan Todd.

A lifelong surfer, Cathie ensured that her children also surfed and taught their children as well. As an adult, Cathie primarily lived near the Channel Islands Harbor and in Oxnard Shores.

Cathie lived a life of service to others throughout her careers.

Early on, she worked in the Hospitality Industry as a server in high-end resort restaurants. She then transitioned to the Real Estate Industry working with Education, Title, and Mortgage companies. During that time she lived in Fresno, California, for five years before returning to Oxnard.

Cathie returned to college to complete her studies in Early Childhood Education while she taught in local Head Start programs. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Child Development from the University of La Verne and worked at Child Development Resources (CDR) in Oxnard. She was known as “Teacher Cathie” to her preschool students, and continued working throughout the pandemic holding online classes and family check-ins.

Cathie Eileen Cook is survived by her beloved sons Jeremy T. Cook and Ryan T. (Shanna) Cook, and her cherished grandchildren: Makaullie, Mackenzie, Macailynn, Malaki, and Nixxon (Ryan) and Jarrod and McKenna (Jeremy). Cathie is also survived by her mother, Constance S. Turner; her siblings Stephen A. Cook (step-brother), Elizabeth A. Davis, Constance D. Cook-Core, and Jesse A Cook, Jr; 15 nieces and nephews, and many grand nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her step-father Jesse A Cook, Sr., and step-sister Sharon A. Boykin.

Services for Cathie Eileen Cook will be held on June 1, 2022, at 1:00 p.m., at Reardon’s Funeral Home, 511 North A Street, Oxnard, CA 93030. A reception will follow immediately in the living room and patio areas of Reardon’s.
