Long time Oxnard resident, Betty Irene Murray, passed away peacefully at age 82, in Goleta, CA, where she had been lovingly cared for by her youngest daughter Kathy. She was born on May 6, 1938, in St. Louis, MO. She graduated from Oxnard High School as valedictorian in 1956 and went on to receive her Home Economics degree from UC Santa Barbara. She then married the love of her life Jimmy on February 6, 1960. After their first child, Michael was born, they moved to Hawaii, and had two daughters, Carolyn and Kathy.
Betty had a passion for sewing. She sewed matching dresses for her daughters and nieces for Christmas. She enjoyed hosting holiday meals for the extended family. She was an avid reader. She was PTA President when her children were in grade school. She went back to school later in life to get her teaching credentials and then taught at Hueneme High School until she retired.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip James Murray, parents, Truman and Irene Rapert, niece Natalie Blake and nephew Michael Tessen. She is survived by her sister Gwen McCracken, two sisters-in-law, Marie (Bob) Taketa and Linda (Mike) Markov, three children, Michael (Jeanne) Murray, Carolyn (Brent) Moffitt and Kathy Murray, five grandchildren, Meagan, Meredith, Mariah, Stacey and Taylor, two great-granddaughters, Audrey and Carter, four nieces, September Cizek, Gretchen Brock, Lisa DeFilippis, Tracy Markov Pollard and nephew, BG Markov.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 3-5 pm at Reardon Funeral Home, 511 N A St., Oxnard. A funeral service will be held on Wed., Dec. 16, 10 am at Santa Clara Church, 323 S. "E" St., Oxnard, followed by the burial at Santa Clara Cemetery, 2370 N H St, Oxnard.
