Anne McDowell passed away unexpectedly on February 21, 2024.
Her primary occupation was accounting, and she was also an enrolled tax agent for 11 years. She highly valued education and obtained a bachelor’s degree from UCSB in 1991. In the last 15 years of her life, she partnered with her daughter to build the community-based organization, Genesis Sober Living, for supportive housing in Ventura County.
A note from her daughter, Melissa: The world has lost a dazzling ray of light. Mom savored this life, enjoyed being with her family and dogs most of all. She found joy in gatherings, camping, holidays, pool parties or simply chatting on the phone, catching up and getting the latest scoop on our lives. She was a spectacular cook and baker, famous for her pumpkin pie and southern style gravy and comfort foods. We continually sought her advice as she was very smart, full of common sense with a clever sense of humor that did not discriminate. Thank you for this wonderful life you’ve given to all of us, the colorful memories, for being our rock, wife, mommy, grandma, sister, auntie, FRIEND. I can’t lie, it won’t be easy without you, but we’ve inherited your resilience, your tenacity and grit. Somehow, we’ll find a way. So, please, save a seat for us, well, let’s be honest, you should probably just rope off a section. You have quite the crew behind you. We’ll be there, we’re just running late (again). Enjoy the quiet while you can. Please don’t rest in peace, RUN, JUMP, DANCE, SING, LAUGH, no need to catch your breath, just keep doing it over and over. I promise your memory will never fade and that you’ll be forever loved and in our hearts. Bye for now Mom. Save a dance for us. Love YOU.
She is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, Bruce McDowell; brothers, Joseph, Ralph, Thomas, and Robert; daughters, Sherry and Melissa; grandchildren, Stephanie, Jennifer, Christina, Bryanna, Brandon and Brittany; and great grandchildren, Liyah, Giannah, Nevaeh, Josiah, Jacob, Madeline, Bradley, Lucy, Blake and Grayson. Anne is preceded in death by her loving parents Ralph and Beatrice Richter; and son-in-law Gary Moore.
Our family wishes to express our sincere appreciation of sympathy, comforting words, prayers, and that expressions of kindness, and outpouring love.
