Angel “Big Ang” Chavez (44) passed peacefully in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family on Wednesday, August 3, 2022.

Angel was born on March 7, 1978 in Ventura, CA and was a longtime resident of Oxnard, CA. He was the 3rd of 7 siblings. Angel graduated from Frontier high school in 1996 and became a dad to his first born son Angel J Chavez. In 1997 he realized the love of his life had been by his side for several years. A childhood friend would be the one; his better half and his life witness to his story, his wife, Liza “babe” Vargas Chavez. Together they resided in Oxnard, CA and became parents to their 4 children, Vanessa, Jocelyn, Erik and Andrew Chavez. Nothing was more valuable and important than his 5 children and his wife. His daughters will forever be his “Maas” and his sons will forever be his “Pops”.

A devoted husband and father, Angel lived his life with respect, humility and gratitude. He was a big guy that some would find intimidating at first but once you got to know him, he was one of the kindest and selfless man you’d ever know. Right away he would make you feel like family and never as an outsider. He would literally give you the shirt off his back if needed to.

As always he would represent his favorite teams Dodgers, Cowboys and Clippers, either wearing some of his many hats or jerseys. He enjoyed listening to music, barbecuing his famous tri tip, all while there was a game playing. Sports are a big part in his entire family, and the one thing he loved doing more than anything was watching his children play and excel in the sport they loved. He loved playing in the “MBC” for his little cousin, he wasn’t afraid of a little dirt on his belly as long as he got on base. Some of his favorite nights were spent in his garage shooting some pool, watching a game or simply hanging out with family and friends.
The memories he has left will forever live on in each and everyone of us that had the pleasure and luxury to have met this kind, generous and loving man.

Angel is preceded in death by his grandmother Nellie Perez Casas, grandparents Teresa and Jose Chavez,  aunts Alica Aguilera Reyna, Lupe Aguilera, cousins Joe Louis Aguilera Marcus Rubio and Valerie Rubio.

He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving and devoted wife Liza Vargas Chavez;  children: Angel, Vanessa, Jocelyn, Erik and Andrew. His parents Angie Burrola Magana and Juan Magana; father Robert Chavez; siblings Robert Chavez (Silvia); Joe Chavez (Sandy) Veronica Chavez; Juan Jose Magana (Natalie); Esteban Magana; Juanito Magana (Nati); 17 nieces and nephews as well as 3 godchildren; and of course the many, uncles, aunts and cousins, extended family, dear friends and neighbors.

From his wife: “Babe I will carry you with me everyday of my life, thank you for being my life partner, till we meet again fly high and shine bright in the sky.”
