Andrea Lugo Obituary

Our beloved Andrea Lugo Rivas lived an incredible 86 years and went to be with the Lord on November 27, 2023. She was born in Bakersfield on April 22, 1937, to her loving parents, Frank & Petra Lugo.

Andrea grew up in Watsonville, CA, where she met her first husband and had seven children. She then became a single mother, and in 1968, she met the love of her life, Ruben Rivas, who was willing to help raise her children and with whom she spent over 40 years of marriage until he passed in 2011. They moved to Ventura County in 1969 and first lived in El Rio, where they stayed for nine years, then moved to Port Hueneme, where the family and her grandchildren lived for 15 years; she lived the rest of her life in Oxnard.

Andrea was an influential, loving person with a beautiful sense of humor. Her strength was rare and hard to compare, illustrated by her willingness to help raise most of her grandchildren. She always ensured her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren had a place to go. She loved to dance to Spanish music with her husband, Ruben, at every family celebration, watch Dodgers games and play cards. She is missed profoundly, and her family will never forget what she has done for every one of them. We know the Lord has great plans for her in heaven, and her family is happy they will see her again.

She is survived by her 3 children: Connie Ortiz, Joe Retana, and Yolanda Retana; 13 Grandchildren, Jeanette Escamilla (Mike), Christina Lugo, Rosie Escobar (Joe), Israel Lugo, Jose Arreguin, Irene Pegg (Jason), Frank Lugo, Manuel Andrade (Clarisa), Teri Telles (Kenny), Michael Arreguin (Vanessa), Vincent Andrade (Cynthia), and Emiliano Andy Sainz (Nicole); 47 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank & Petra Lugo; brothers, Joe, Ernie, Henry, sisters Tomasa, Pancha, Eva, Gloria and Petra Lugo; children, Emiliano, Lydia, Richard, Victoria Retana; son-in-law Joaquin “Jack” Ortiz; grandson, Angel Ortiz; and great-granddaughters Cassandra Brianna Escobar and Kassandra Louise Sainz.
