Alfred "Freddie" Hlavaty Jr. Obituary

With shattered hearts, we share the loss of our beloved son, brother, and uncle, Alfred Joseph Hlavaty, Jr., known to friends as Fred and to family as Freddie, who passed away on September 25, 2025, in a tragic cycling accident. He was only 62. Though his time here was far too short, the light he brought into our lives will never fade.

Born on September 13, 1963, Fred was a bright presence in the lives of all who knew him. He had a gift for making people laugh, he was one of a kind, and exceptional working with his hands. “Fred The Lighting Guy,” his custom outdoor lighting business was his pride and joy - a reflection of his creativity, craftsmanship, and dedication. His adventurous spirit, kindness, and love for life were evident in everything he did.

Fred lived with an inspiring passion for life. He valued health and vitality, often swimming or hiking to a hilltop just to take in the ocean view. But, his greatest joy was cycling, whether cruising along the ocean or exploring the quiet backroads. In March, he proudly completed the 100-mile Solvang Century ride. Fred loved the outdoors and cherished time with friends, always making the effort to stay connected with those he cared about.

Music played a central role in Fred’s life. His all-time favorite band was Rush and he cherished every live music event he attended. He shared a special bond with his beloved dog, Charlie, who passed away last year. The love and companionship they shared brought him immense happiness.

Above all, Fred’s family was at the center of his life. He treasured every moment with them, showing his love through his care, laughter, and unwavering support. He will be remembered for his kindness, his quick humor, and the way he made others feel valued. To his family and friends, he was more than a son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend—he was a confidant, a source of laughter, and a reminder of what it means to live fully. His absence leaves an immeasurable void.

He leaves behind his parents, Fred and Kathy Hlavaty; sisters, Tammy (husband Michael) and Debbie; nieces and nephews, Jackie, Amanda, Bella, Anthony, and Timothy; aunt Joanne; cousins, Michael (wife Amy), Greg, Rachel, and Ryan. He is also remembered by his extended family in Texas. In addition, he leaves behind many dear friends whose lives he touched deeply.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity in honor of him, animal rescue, bike safety organization, etc., a way to keep his generous spirit alive.

Though our hearts are broken by his loss, we are grateful for the gift of his life and the memories we carry. His gentle nature and kind soul made the world a better place. Fred will forever be missed, but never forgotten.

His family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the prayers, love, and support during this difficult time.
