Roy William Houser

July 16, 1927 ~ August 17, 2018 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Roy William Houser passed away peacefully at las Robles Hospital from complications of surgery with his loving family by his side. Roy was 91 years old. Roy was born July 16, 1927 in Sjmi and was a second- generation California. He attended Fillmore High School and during World War II joined the Navy to serve his country. His military service was in the Asiatic­Pacific Area piloting an LCVP during the two Jima and Okinawa landings. He was. onboard the USS Miami during the Japanese surrender at Tokyo Japan. and finished his military service aboard the USS Willoughby. He has remained a member of the Oxnard American Legion Post No 48. 

Roy had a varied business life in sales. His love of people, his work ethics and the gift of gab made him a lifetime of friends in the local community. 

Roy loved spending time with his family going camping, water skiing and many family gatherings. Retiring in 1991, Roy and his wife Barbara enjoyed traveling to the British Isles, Alaska, Australia, New Zealand, cruising the Hawaiian Island and traveling throughout the entire United States, Canada and Mexico. He was a member of several camping groups and enjoyed the camaraderie of his camping buddies. 

Roy was instrumental in the formation of Oxnard' s Cabrillo Neighborhood Watch Program and served for over 12 years as Watch Coordinator. He remained active as a Watch member and member of the Cabrillo Neighborhood Council. 

Roy was preceded in death by his mother and father Bernice and Leo Houser, sister Nancy Beube, sister and. brother in law Joan & Jim Elkins, son in law Joe Sullivan, sister in law Rachel (Jack} Vujovich, daughter Jo Marie (Charlie) Nunes, grandchildren Mike Sullivan and Paula Caudill and previous wife Madge Houser. 

Roy leaves behind his loving wife Barbara of 39 years, daughters Nan (Joe) Sullivan, Susan (Wes) Morimune of Oxnard, son Mark (Denise} Houser of Oakview, son Jeff Gamble of Oxnard, six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
