Born August 22, 1939, Rosemary Milligan (Nee Knittel) was a second-generation citrus farmer and a lifetime resident of Somis. As a Young adult, she attended Moorpark High School, where she was proud to be the drum major. During this time, she was also very active in the Somis 4-H club and continued membership through high school returning as an adult leader when her children became involved with the club. She received her BA in Education from the University of Arizona where she was a member of the ADPI. Upon receiving her teaching credentials in K-3, she taught briefly in Oxnard before returning to Somis to take up residence in the family home. When her children reached school age, she briefly returned to teaching at Somis Elementary. She was a dedicated member of the Catholic Church and active in YLI. She was famous for her vast rose garden and created gorgeous displays for the Altar Society as well as for family and friends. She organized and decorated events for the YLI monthly luncheons, creating lavish holiday-theme tablescapes and flower arrangements. She loved sewing, painting, candle making, reading, pets who stayed outside, flower arranging, playing piano, her house and garden, chocolate and peanut butter ice cream, the smell of orange blossoms, and being a lifelong member of St. Mary Magdalen church. She said her favorite place on earth was her family home and is where, with her family around her, she passed away on October 19.
Recitation of the Rosary will take place at 10 a.m. December 7 at St. Mary Magdalen Chapel, Followed by the funeral mass at 10:30 am.
She is survived by her brother August (Gus) Knittel, Her Daughters Lori Milligan, Maryann McCormick, Erin Milligan, and grandchildren Molly and Max McCormick, Olivia and Avery Milligan Lenhard, And Delaney Milligan Kahl
