Ignacio "Iggy" Flores

Ignacio Rincon Flores passed away August 23rd, 2018. He was born in Fowler, CA on August 10th, 1924 to parents Ygnacio B. Flores and Jesus Rincon. Ignacio came to Ventura County at the age of 4 and was a resident for 90 years.

Mr. Flores retired as the Receiving Officer after 36 years of service at the CBC Port Hueneme Naval Station in 1979. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Jennie T. Flores, parents Ygnacio and Jesus Flores, sisters Jesus Martinez, Dolores Corona, brothers Peter Flores, Jose Flores, Pedro Flores, Trinidad Flores, Rogelio Flores, and grandson Joel Macias. 

Mr. Flores joined the United States Army on January 28th, 1943 and was discharged in October 1970 from the United States Army Reserve with the rank of 1st Sgt. E-8. He received the following citations: Bronze Star Medal, 3 Purple Hearts, European Theater of Operations Medal with Arrowhead and Silver Star, Good Conduct Medal w/ 3 Knots, American Theater of Operations Medal, Victory Medal, National Defense Medal, U.S. Army Reserve Medal, Navy Reserve Medal, Combat Infantry Badge "CIB", Presidential Citation and French Fourragere. He was stationed in different places in the United Kingdom (England). Mr. Flores saw action in 5 campaigns: 6th June 1944 Normandy, Northern France, the Ardennes, the Rhineland and Czechoslovakia. Mr. Flores was a World War II veteran, he served with the 8th Airforce and Company "F" 2nd Battalion 16th Infantry Regiment of the First Infantry Division also known as the "Big Red One."

Mr. Flores served as Scoutmaster for Troop 208 back in the late forties for 2 years. He worked with the Colonia Little League Baseball for 6 years, Sunset Little League for 8 years and Channel Islands High School for 4 years. He served with the Booster Club for 2 years as Vice President and 2 years as President. He also helped with baseball and track.

Mr. Flores belonged to Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish. He donated 30 years of the Lords time as a Church Recorder and doing other various jobs. His main focus was working with Bishop Joseph Madera and other Priests.

His hobbies were baseball, always helping others and working around his home and yard. He was a loving husband and father. He loved his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and would call each one by the "special nickname" he gave them. He loved to talk about all his family. 

He will be missed by many friends and family. His survivors include MaryLou Flores, Dottie (Mario) Quinonez, Virginia Flores, Armando "Super" (Linda) Flores, Ruban Flores, and Jessie (Henry) Nava, 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
