Herbert William Fenske Jr.

Herbert Fenske passed away Wednesday, March 14th, 2018 at home in Oxnard CA with loving family by his side. He was born July 21st, 1934, to Herbert William Sr. and Pamela Fenske in Chicago IL. Herbert was a resident of Oxnard CA for the last 60 years.

He married Flora Guillen on May 21, 1960, and they were blessed with 9 children: Virginia (Mike) Bridges, Elise (Francisco) Malacara, Ernest, Martha, Helen, Marguerite (Wes) Scott, Cynthia Scott, Peter (Danielle) and Richard (Linda). Those children, in turn, blessed them with 22 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Herbert was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Flora, parents, Herbert Sr. and Pamela, and his sister Marguerite.

Herbert graduated from Bradley University in Peoria, IL. He joined the USMC Reserves, which introduced him to the beautiful state of California and the mild weather so different from Chicago. He made his career as an engineer at Pt. Mugu Naval Air Missile Test Center for 40 years until his retirement. He enjoyed spending his time gardening and riding his bicycle through the city of Oxnard. He was a supporter of Relay For Life of Oxnard as part of the team We Walk By Faith featuring Team Gina. Recent volunteer activities included St. Anthony’s Church as a money counter and Sierra Linda Neighborhood Watch as Treasurer. In the past, he had spent many years volunteering at Santa Clara High School Bingo, served as president of the SCHS Parents’ Guild, and helped out with St. Vincent De Paul. This man served his family, his community and God. He is one of the strongest men we have ever known, and it seemed as if there was nothing that he couldn’t do. He was much loved and will be very much missed.

The family would like to thank Dr. Todd Yates and the staff at Ventura County Hematology- Oncology for their excellent care of him during his 5 year battle with pancreatic cancer. In lieu of flowers, we invite you to please make a donation to your favorite charity.
