Celia Palazuelos Lopez, 88, passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at St. Johns RMC in Oxnard surrounded by family and close friends. She left us peacefully listening to some of her favorite songs.
She was born August 1, 1930 in Oxnard to Adolfo and Delfina Palazuelos.

Born and raised in Oxnard, she graduated from Oxnard High School. In 1947 she was voted queen of the "Fiestas Patrias". Her mother, Delfina, owned the Nopalito Restaurant on Meta Street where she and her siblings all helped run the business. On April 24, 1949 she married Frank Hurtado Lopez and they were married until his death in 1997.

As a devoted mother and homemaker for most of her life, she also worked briefly for the Oxnard School District administering placement testing to students and later became a Notary Public and Real Estate Agent for Coldwell Banker. She was a talented seamstress, enjoyed knitting and crocheting, and was an excellent cook. Her hobbies included playing Scrabble with family and the challenge of a good crossword puzzle. She had a real appreciation for nature and delighted in her lovebirds. Celia sang in the Channelaire Chorus/Sweet Adelines and performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City. She loved to travel all over the world and learn about different cultures. One of her favorite past times was to read books. She was a wise woman who lived a complete life and often shared sound advice along with love and laughter. She will miss her dearly by all who knew her. Her traditional qualities will always be appreciated and commemorated. We will always be grateful that she influenced us to become better human beings through her wisdom, thoughtfulness, and forgiveness.

Celia is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Carmen Linda Solis of Sacramento, Ca. and Mrs. Delfina "China" Roeber of Creed, Co.; brothers Victor and Ruben Palazuelos of Oxnard, Ca.; one son, Angelo; two daughters, Mrs. Adela (Lopez) Lambert, Mrs. Alexis (Lopez) Cervenak of Oxnard, Ca. and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Adolfo Garcia and Delfina Duarte (Lopez) Palazuelos; her husband, Frank Hurtado Lopez; two sisters, Herlinda Alicia and Alicia Lopez; one brother Rudolfo Palazuelos; loved one, Alfonso Castillo; and two daughters, Amanda (Lopez) Burr and Alice (Lopez) "Juarez" Larrazolo.
