This past Saturday, my dearest wife, best friend and mother to our two boys Jamie & Weiler, sister of Tom (aka Massie) and daughter of Jim and the late Cynthia, passed away at our home with her family and the family's vigilant two German Shepherds at her side. Over the course of 10 years she refused to succumb to her breast cancer, and despite numerous setbacks, always beat it back. She was unwilling, at any cost, to give up her roles as a daughter, as a mother, as a wife, as a sister, and as a friend and a source of life to all those around her. She was quite a trooper but her cancer finally caught up with her. We will miss her tremendously - a void that cannot be filled - but we will always remember.

Camilla grew up in Oxnard, CA, the child of Jim and Cynthia Lloyd-Butler and brother of Tom. Camilla attended St. Bonaventure High School and Santa Clara University where she developed many lifelong friendships, sung in the Santa Clara Chorale. Music was always a big part of Camilla's life. In addition to the Chorale work she did, she played piano through high school, and her love for music expanded in later years to include everything from classical to rap. Camilla began her career in the Los Angeles fashion industry where she developed her quality taste in clothing, purses and shoes.

Camilla had a curious mind and an adventuresome spirit, inherited from her mother and grandmother. She organized numerous family trips around the US, including Lake Tahoe, New York, and The Greenbrier Resort, and to Europe with her family. Later, she visited dear friends in Tokyo, Amsterdam and London while in remissions from her illness. On her trips in recent years, she tired easily, especially in museums, but found she could revive easily herself with a little shopping in a boutique or a department store.

She remained committed to a solid foundation of Christian principles, elegance, high standards and faith - qualities which received respect from friends and family alike. Above all, she was committed to the end, as a daughter, a mother, a wife and a friend to many. She was quite a person and will be sorely missed.

Camilla is survived by sons Jamie & Weiler, brother, Tom, father, Jim, husband, Art, and many relatives.

Services will be held Friday, April 20th at 10 AM at Santa Clara Church in Oxnard, CA. A private rosary will be held Thursday. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Camilla Shafer's memory to St. John's Health Center Foundation, 2121 Santa Monica Blvd., Santa Monica, CA 90404 (please write on the check that this gift supports Dr. Kesari's research at PNI) or online at pacificneuro.org/donate.
